MILEY CYRUS: BENEFICIAL BLACKNESS

“I also love that new Kendrick [Lamar] song [“Humble”]: ‘Show me somethin’ natural like ass with some stretch marks,’” she said. “I love that because it’s not ‘Come sit on my d*ck, suck on my c*ck.’ I can’t listen to that anymore. That’s what pushed me out of the hip-hop scene a little. It was too much ‘Lamborghini, got my Rolex, got a girl on my c*ck’ — I am so not that.” These words were from none other than culture vulture extraordinaire Miley Cyrus in her recent Billboard magazine interview! The once wholesome family friendly image of Miley Cyrus was stripped (pun intended) and traded in for what can only be described as an over-the-top mentally disturbed drug addict junkie prostitute chic. Miley proudly wore this costume for profit and used the Black community as a safe haven from white persecution. Miley sought refuge in the Hip-Hop community to legitimize her fuckery. If the Hip-Hop community embraced Nicki Minaj’s over the top outfit choices and the eccentric styling’s of Busta Rhymes and Andre 3000 then why not the lily-white vulture?

I knew way back when Miley first came out as this “I don’t give a fuck” attitude having Madonna-esque risqué wardrobe wearing self that she was only doing this temporarily until she can transition into other endeavors. Miley literally did everything she could to solidify a musical fan base and she used Black culture as her vehicle into the eyes, ears, and pockets of the people. I believe never once was she sincere in her appreciation of Hip-Hop culture and had this day mapped out from the beginning where she takes off her cloak of Blackness and denounce it in front of the world to signify her return to white America! Those The Voice checks must be something serious or perhaps the execs pressured her to tone it down and be more “white friendly.” Who knows, but what I do know is that Miley’s statements about Hip-Hop are hypocritical and only exposes her true white supremacist ideology.

“Come sit on my d*ck, suck on my c*ck.’ I can’t listen to that anymore. That’s what pushed me out of the hip-hop scene a little. It was too much,” says the person who literally would twerk her nonexistent ass, expose her barely there breast, and ride huge phallic symbols at award shows how dare she turn-up her nose at the sexually explicit lyrical themes in Hip-Hop! By singling out Hip-Hop is to low-key dog whistle to white folks the confirmation of the sexual deviance and immorality they already believe to be present in the Black community! She is no better than those white slave owner wives who would sneak down to fuck the field nigger at night with no intentions of freeing him. White folks try on Blackness through voyeurism like the tour buses my mother trained me to shield my from that would drive through my grandfather’s block in Harlem or through imitation like Miley.

What makes Miley’s actions all the more egregious is that she adopted the sexualized aspects of Hip-Hop knowing damn well that when she twerks its artistic expression, but when the Black sisters she had on stage with her twerk, they are viewed as prostitutes and whores who are advertising their bodies for male consumption and the white male gaze. Black women are over sexualized to the point that on TV a white woman can wear a thong and her ass can be shown to the camera without being blurred, but when the Black woman has the same outfit on she gets blurred out. This small disparity in censorship shows just how deeply flawed some white peoples thinking can be.

I think overall Miley is just another white woman using her privilege to exploit the seemingly negative aspects of a culture for profit without any of the backlash or having to defend it. Miley can simply roam through the entertainment industry culturally appropriating Black art and can try on Blackness as if she were a trying on a new shirt at Forever 21. When her Blackness doesn’t fit she is free to choose another more comfortable shirt. Meanwhile Black folks are forced to wear their Blackness even when it’s ill-fitting or makes others unjustifiably uncomfortable. For Black folks, Blackness is a garment we can never take off because it is weaved and stitched into the very fiber of our beings! Fuck you Miley Cyrus!
